December Birthday Dress and February Birthday Dress from Liana’s Paper Doll Boutique

It wasn’t so much that I was uninspired today as it was that I spent a couple of hours on trazy’s requested coloring of the 1700s dress and then screwed it up, and even though I took some stabs at doing something easy after that, nothing quite seemed to work. So here are two dresses from Liana’s Paper Doll Boutique, which was the paper doll site that I ran around ten years ago, when I was in high school. This is the December birthday dress, with turquoise and white poinsettias, and the February one, with amythests and violets.

Purple and White Striped Towel In Honor of Towel Day

Today is Towel Day, in honor of Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy and other fine books. Why towels? Because towels are the one thing an interstellar hitchhiker should never be without, no matter what else they might lose. Not only is it useful in a wide range of situations (gas mask, blanket, improvised weapon, at least against creatures with sensitive skin) but it’s tremendously impressive to have braved the galaxy without once having lost one’s towel.

OK, I am the sort of gal who keeps her towels in the linen closet, but at least my creations can be hoopy froods, and I think Ivy would be the type to have a towel at hand during her journeys. As you can guess, there are some days where an interstellar hitchhiker is very, very grateful indeed for a nice big stripey towel. (And perhaps a safety pin or two, if the galaxy has any pity whatsoever.)

You can thank Brian for the copy of the Guide; he went on to suggest a Pan-Galactic Gargle Blaster, but I think that might be pushing it…

I really had no reason for putting up this poll, but thank you all for indulging me none the less.

Mermaid Monday #14: Purple Water Iris Mermaid with Yellow Tail

So yesterday was Mother’s Day, and then I go and disappoint my poor mother by deciding to take Sundays off! Well, I couldn’t not do Mermaid Monday, but this one is dedicated to my mom, since she likes irises. (Yes, that’s what those flowers are supposed to be, water irises. You all should see the irises she draws: they are beautiful and look like irises, unlike mine.)

Right now, sadly, I live over 2,000 miles away from my family, but this summer, we’re planning on moving, Prismacolors and cats and all, from Michigan to Washington State where they live. You all should appreciate that, because I have a feeling that once I’m out there, Mom won’t let me get away with any more half-year disappearances! Seriously, though, I will probably end up drawing more because I can get together with her, or my cousin Becky, and just enjoy drawing. So wish me good luck with that, once I get to that point.

Halloween Masquerade Costume Series #4: The Cursed Sisters, Part 3

The song was slow, and Linnetta found it positively mournful. Her partner seemed to be concentrating on the music as well, dancing ever more lightly to make up for her slow pace and dulled movements.

“Do you really believe that your family is cursed, Linnetta?” he asked suddenly.

“What, did you place a bet on my death too?” she replied, her fingers tightening on his shoulder. “How will I die? A sudden relapse perhaps, or does an assassin lurk nearby? Or will I slip and crack my head during the next song?”

“I’m rather of the opinion that you will live for quite a long time.”

“It’s good to know that someone thinks so,” she said.

Off to the side, Linnetta could see a woman in a sickly green gown whispering to the another woman, the previous arrival in spangled black. Those two together made her uneasy. Undoubtedly they were watching her, but then again so was everyone else. She would have felt elated at all the attention, if not for those women.

I’m sorry about the delay for today, this dress just was impossible! Hopefully tomorrow’s should go easier. Amelia guessed the contest answer, which I’m embarrassed to say was the Spice Girls, yes, no kidding, I know nothing about them except a couple bars of that one song and that flag dress, but apparently one of them had a gold dress I tried to draw at some point back in high school. And, what’s going on, fairies are losing? I thought for sure they had it this week. Well, vote, vote…
