The Peignoir of Pestilence in Black

I’m feeling sick – or, rather, I’m feeling the impending doom of hurting ears and lightheadedness that points to about an evening’s worth of grace before I become useless for a couple of days. That gives me time to make a nice big vat of soup (chickpea noodle – the ailing vegetarian’s specialty) and draw a paperdoll outfit that lets me vent my frustration at a promising weekend being spoiled. I haven’t been sick in a while, but somehow that doesn’t make me feel any more cheerful! I was going to do all sorts of fun stuff, and now I will probably spend the weekend in bed napping and trolling Hulu for stuff to watch. (If you’d like to ease my suffering, please recommend shows or movies on Hulu that require little or no brainpower to enjoy. I have a particular weakness for ridiculous anime when I’m feeling sick, keep in mind ^^;;)

The last time I remember feeling really sick, I drew an outfit for the fairy of illness and disease, and I suppose it’s time to propitiate her once more. That outfit felt more formal to me, but this is just the sort of thing you need when you’re lounging around and being evil. The Peignoir of Pestilence, let’s say.

Depending on how I feel by Saturday, there may or may not be a new outfit in this space. I’m growing too tired to even really finish this one like it deserves, but I thought I had best post it anyways. You can kind of see where I was going with it, even if I didn’t get there in the end.

  1. Awww, feel better, Liana!!! Being sick is no fun; I hope it passes quickly! This dress kind of makes me want to lounge around and be a little bit evil. Hrmmm…

  2. I would totally wear that if I was evil…

Hope you feel better soon Liana! Seems like the later winter illness is going around.

  3. This is a gorgeous dress! Very evil-like…something I would wear if I were a fairy. Evil fairy, of course.
And I was browsing through the Hulu anime section, and, you know what? They don’t have much. Pretty depressing, really. They had none of my manga-went-anime series like Mamotte! Lollipop, Shugo Chara, Ultra Maniac. I was disappointed.
Anyway, I truly hope you feel better! Sleep lots and whatnot!

  4. That is a very pretty dress. Thank you for posting it.

If you want something other than anime to watch, then here are a few suggestions:

    Monk
    Lie to Me
    Physic
    Raising Hope

Umm, that’s all I can think of right now!

    Hope you feel better soon!
    Monica

  5. Hope you feel better soon!! Is it ok for me to have any of the dresses made? (Oops, I think I asked that before!! XD)

  6. Hope you feel better soon Liana! It’s no fun being sick…my baby brother is sick too…And the dress well lets just say I wish i could draw this good even when I’m not sick. And if I were evil I would sooo wear this dress!

  7. I would suggest classics like I Dream of Genie and Bewitched. Easy to follow, and oh so funny. I hope you feel better soon, and the dress is gorgeous.

  8. Hope you feel better soon! Peppermint tea always helps! Thank you for the evil-fairy dress; it has a dark shadowy essence of foreboding that I really like and yet it also seems to have an oriental feeling somehow. It is lovely!

  9. The doll looks very real. the design is extremely attractive and pretty. YOur drawing skill is awesome.

  10. Hope you feel better soon Liana, by the way I am vegetarian and I was wondering… could you give me the recipe for chickpea noodle soup? It sounds delish…

  11. Thanks everyone for the well wishes! It turned out to be the flu… I’m not 100% over it yet, though, more like 75%, and I can’t really say when I’ll be drawing next ^^;; If that wasn’t enough, my husband got it too! We make a pretty pathetic pair right now…

Meghan, it’s a pretty basic soup, and I don’t really have a recipe, I just wing it ^^;; But I’ll write down what I did, more or less… I like it strong, so I added two diced-up onions, four carrots, four stalks of celery, about five cloves of minced garlic, a few tablespoons of veggie broth powder (or just use veggie broth), about two cups cooked chickpeas, salt and pepper, thyme, parsley, poultry seasoning, lots of water, a little olive oil, lots of mushrooms because I like mushrooms, cooked until… soupy? (I used a pressure cooker, can’t say how long it takes the long way). I added some spinach after it was done cooking, mostly because otherwise it would have gone bad, and boiled some egg noodles separately, then added them when serving (so the noodles don’t get soggy). I have a feeling this recipe is a little incoherent, for a more readable version you could try http://vegoutwithus.wordpress.com/2009/11/10/vegan-chickpea-noodle-soup/
I haven’t tried that, but I imagine it’s pretty similar.

  12. I’m glad your getting better Liana! You can draw when ever your ready…and this may by a really weird and random question but, have you ever square danced? I have an activity tonight and we’re going to square dance and I was wondering if it was any fun!

  13. i think you shoudl make a LADY GAGA dress! Does ayone else agree? I just went to her concert and it was amazing! I would love to see you make one. Please consider it :)

  14. I love this dress, would so wear it

I recently stumbled across your site while looking for a dress to put my character in a role play game in (we basically create characters and write a story around them, it’s a bit like fanfic, the one I needed the dress for is a lord of the rings one, on Ravelry.com)
anyway love your drawings, I’ve used a couple, linking them to you, for the characters in the role play story game to wear at my characters coronation :P
