When my mom told me how impressed she was with the burgundy velvet on the Good Queen’s gown, I felt like such a fraud. It’s basically two colors applied thickly and not overlapping, with just a touch of black and a bit of the colorless blender – pretty easy, honestly. In any case, it was the first time I’d tried that effect, and it was such fun that I thought I’d give it another shot, so I ended up with this party dress. There is not much to it other than an excuse for me to play with this technique!

Prismacolors used: Goldenrod, Bronze, Cream, Dark Umber, Dark Green, Apple Green and Black – however, apple green felt too bright compared to the dark green, and the colors of dress you see were changed in Photoshop.

  1. I don’t know what it is about this dress, but it really, really cheered me up. I’ve had the most horrible day imaginable and remembering that today is Thursday and you would be posting made me feel so much better.

  2. Hey Sami, it can’t have been that bad. Or maybe I should say, it could have been worse…

Anyway, I had a tree fall on my house on Monday, so I’ve spent the last two days emergency moving (if you think moving sucks, emergency moving REALLY sucks). But the whole time I’ve been counting my blessings (and muscle aches and bruises…) that it wasn’t worse. For one thing, we hadn’t decorated our tree lol.

Thanks for the pretty dresses Liana =)

  3. Beautiful! I love it, I love the green! I’m sorry you guys are having bad times- I hope it gets better real quick!

  4. Oh my boyfriend is gonna kill me when he see’s this cause he’ll know I want to make this one so bad. Its absolutely gorgeous. Also, I found a book of kimono paper dolls today.

  5. Gorgeous dress. I could almost picture someone wearing it at a Christmas party. It looks so velvety…I adore this dress. And the colors are phenomenal. I love the blending you did.

  6. I couldn’t help not posting. (for the second time.) But I just Love this dress. It’s beautiful. I don’t know how you do it Liana. Your amazing. I wish I could wear this dress to a Christmas party! Well anyway I love the dress, and I love YOU liana! Great Job!

  7. Thanks, everyone! I might do a tutorial when I can draw it to my satisfaction – like I said, this one is pretty Photoshopped, so I have to figure out what colors look good together ^^;; Not that the original was bad, just not what I wanted. Sara, I’m sorry to hear about your house… It sounds like no one was hurt, at least, but I hear you on the pain of emergency moving… I’ve done that for a one-bedroom apartment, so I can only imagine how nasty it must be for a whole house! I hope you and your family get through it all right…

  8. I have to say, Liana, this one is fantasitic. Not only the design of the dress, which is pretty, but the “fabric” is amazing. The simple design of the dress really draws your eyes to the plushness of it. And the gold belts really pull it together.

  9. Thanks Liana =) I didn’t mention it for sympathy or anything. I was just trying to make the point that no matter how bad it may seem, it’s quite possible for it to be worse. At most, this was annoying, to have to move right before christmas and all. No one was hurt, nothing much was damaged, and it gave us an excuse to rearrange our house and toss a bunch of stuff. Well, my cat started pooping everywhere, so that was pretty bad…

I’m gonna third or fourth the velvet tutorial, and add a requeast for a gold / silver tutorial. I tried drawing gold based on your gold mermaid tail, but it didn’t come out looking gold. And gold dragons HAVE to look awesomely gold. =)
