I haven’t done a mermaid for a while — I kind of got burnt out on Mermaid Mondays. They really need a good story behind them to inspire me, but good stories take time, and without that time I come up with things like the laundry mermaid. So I’ve been neglecting them, and I thought I’d do a mermaid tail tutorial to make up for it… Please forgive me for not putting it up tonight – it is about 30 images long and they all need to be resized, thumbnailed, etc. I’m ever so tired of looking at this single tail, I just don’t have the patience or the eye strength anymore! I will try to get it up tomorrow, though. So watch this space…

  1. It’s all good! I can totally wait for a mermaid tail tutorial! At least, for a little while, until the desire burns an ulcer inside of me and I go mad from the pain. So you have time =)

  2. By the way… does anyone know what happened to paperthinpersonas? It’s been nothing for the last few days, not even an error page. I want my paper dolls! /cry

Good question — I follow it on my RSS reader so I didn’t notice anything was wrong with the site, but on April 12 she wrote “Secondly, I have realized it might actually be possible to reformat the site to a standard blog format in a way that won’t take hours upon hours of work. So, that will be happening in the future, but this also means as I play around with format there might be times when links get broken or things seem a little odd.” Hopefully that’s all it is… Good luck, RLC, get it fixed soon :)

  4. Actually, I’ve been meaning to ask you if I may write a story based of of the outfits you drew for Mermaid Monday, (and a few other outfits you drew.) I’ve got a list, and I’ve had this story in my head for a couple months now, but it sort of feels like stealing without asking permission. Just wondering. I like the way you did the fin on this one!

  5. Yay, mermaids! Strange how we all get so psyched up about it…
I love the fin on this one. It’s all exotic-y tropical. Great!

  6. By the way, I was wondering if you could do another black and white outfit to color. I’ve colored all the other ones like a million times. So I was thinking you could do something new and fresh!

  7. wow! im so glad ur even doing mermaids again, much less a mermaid tutorial! so i was reading ur cloth tutorial, and thinking: she puts so much work into these dresses, and i dont even print some of them! so i was feeling really guilty…
anyways, ur new mermaid is as amazing as always!
i love the tail! and the top reminds me of ur first gold mermaid, the “natural” look…
    ^.^

    :D

something additional, just for ur amuseent that mi friend taught me:

    (V)
    (^.^)
    (“)(“)
    c(^)(^)

doesnt work as well in this font, but still!

  9. So happy to see a mermaid, they are one of my favorites. I only wish my printer was better on the beautiful purple! Beautiful.

  10. I’m going to try to get the tutorial — and possibly Thursday’s dress — up tomorrow morning. We’ve got some guests right now and I’m short on time ^^;; Sorry, but I will put it up soon :)

  11. I love the tail, it looks so pretty. I can imagine all the other mermaids looking twice at her…
I have a bit of a silly question- what’s the difference between a gown and a dress? I have some idea, but I’m not very sure..
You’d think I know this, drawing them myself, but..

  12. Good question ^^;; I guess I always think of a gown as something longer and more dramatic. A dress can be long and dramatic too, but it can also be short and practical. At least, that’s my perception of the words.

  13. I liked the laundry mermaid! Haha liana, I was actually wondering if you sometimes post colored black and white dresses that are fan-made. Why not have a coloring contest?

  14. Oh my god you made a mermaid tail after all this time!! I LOVE it! Thank you x 1000! I know you don’t do mermaid mondays anymore but maybe just once in a while when you feel like it would be good! Thank you so much I love this mermaid!

  15. what if you made a story about a mermaid who was an outcast because of her strangely colored tail.. whatever color you think is strange.. and write a sort of ugly ducking story about her?
